Kurseinschreibung

This is an introductory course in the most important historical events and processes that shaped the history of Southern Africa to the present. The course addresses students interested in obtaining a knowledge foundation for further study in the history of the region. The main focus will be on the last 200 years, especially on European colonisation and the foundation of a number of settler colonies, the discovery of minerals and industrialisation, race relations, apartheid and land issues, the struggle for independence, and the history of the postcolonial states in the region.

In the Summer Term 2020, the course will take place online only. The focus will be on writing and self study with the support of the Lecturer and fellow students via online platforms in moodle, such as fora. Zoom-sessions and online instruction videos will complement the supervision.
