A major question in understanding human cognition is how we develop a sophisticated mind that enables us to navigate our world. However, cognitive development is seldom investigated from a philosophical perspective. This course will examine children’s cognitive development primarily from a theoretical standpoint. We will explore how children acquire knowledge about the physical world, understand other agents and minds, and learn their native language. Additionally, we will investigate the extent to which our conceptual knowledge arises from innate versus learned psychological processes.
