The aim of the seminar is to familiarise students with some of the foundational debates in cognitive science. The course starts with the discussion of behaviourism and the cognitive turn. It then moves onto the discussion of representation in cognitive science and theories of representational content. The next central concept the syllabus deals with is computation. We discuss what computationalism is, and then move onto the debates on cognitive architecture where we deal with computationalism more specifically. Other topics toward the end of the course include the dynamical systems approaches, Bayesianism and modularity of mind.
