West-East cultural transfer of linguistic ideas
The course aims to trace the modern cross-cultural dynamics of linguistics in regard to Eastern Europe. In the form of discussions, we are going to investigate various connections, such as: how Western Europe mediated linguistic trends between the USA and Eastern Europe; how Soviet Marrism, imposed as “the true Marxist linguistics” to Eastern Europe, caused notorious stagnation; what necessitated the “import” of linguistics from the West to the East; how American IT technologies determine grammar trends in both Western and Easter Europe; etc. We are going to try to outline tendencies, as well as to focus on particular case studies.- Kursverantwortliche/r: Cvetomira Venkova
