In addition to the International Criminal Court and domestic efforts, hybrid or internationalised courts have assumed a more and more prominent role in the enforcement of international criminal law. This seminar surveys hybrid or internationalised courts such as the Special Court for Sierra Leone, the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia, the Special Panels in East Timor, the Special Criminal Court of the Central African Republic and the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and their challenges and achievements. It seeks to analyse also the potential relationship of such courts with the ICC.
All students are expected to prepare a presentation of 10 to 15 minutes. The subjects of the presentations will be distributed at the beginning of the semester, at a planning and introductory session. Students preparing their 'Studienarbeit' are expected to give their presentation on the subject of their 'Studienarbeit'. Students not doing a 'Studienarbeit' can choose to do a 'Seminararbeit' on the subject of their presentation, to be handed in within two weeks of the end of the seminar. The seminar will be conducted in English.
