Topics in natural language quantification

This class will focus on natural language quantifiers and how they can inform our theories of linguistics. We will engage with a wide array of experimental data as well as cross-linguistic data and discuss how these results bear on the semantics and pragmatics of quantifiers. We will pay particular attention to the interaction between multiple quantifiers as well as the role of context in the interpretation of quantificational expressions. Each section will consist of theoretical background on the phenomenon under investigation, followed by student presentations of relevant experimental work.
