The course is aimed at complete beginner or false beginner students. The objectives of the course are to lay the foundations of the four skills: reading, speaking, listening, and writing in Ukrainian.
The methods of teaching used during the course are mainly those of the communicative approach which will help the learners start communicating in the foreign language as soon as possible. This can be reached via the activities designed to practice language in realistic, communicative activities in the classroom in combination with a comprehensive coverage of the basis of grammatical and lexical systems of Ukrainian. Additional emphasis is placed on developing sociolinguistic communicative skills necessary for successful intercultural interaction. Course materials engage students in exploring Ukraine's living cultural and linguistic environment through the study of its living language.
