Join us to build an anti-ableist toolkit for non-conditional access making in our everyday life as it meets public infrastructures. In this course we will work with our bodyminds (our bodies and minds understood together), with technologies and with media theory on disability and trans*feminism to open up possibilities of making access that are not about complying with how things are but speculating towards how they could be. In this course we engage anti-ableism. To work against ableism means to understand disability as a desirable part of the world and to put work into learning how to make things accessible, to be in conversation with disabled people, and to acknowledge that disabled people know best when it comes to their own experiences. To work against ableism in technology means entering access practices within technology design, prototyping, development and use. In this framework we question: how are the users of technologies usually imagined? What is an anti-assimilationist position towards accessibility? How can we move towards a point where we can choose our technological dependencies and build otherwise technologies of intersectional disability access? In this course we will read, discuss, and critially design tools together.
