Enrolment options

This course builds on knowledge about speech sounds and the mechanisms of their production. The course will explore how speech sounds can be organized into natural classes based on Distinctive Features. The course will draw students attention to the role of stress, intonation and tone in the phonology of different languages. We will learn various phonological processes which occur in language by examining pieces of data from a wide range of languages spoken on different continents. The course is taught asynchronously. There will be Zoom meetings for questions and discussions arranged at various intervals during the semester.
