History and theory of authoritarian rule in the 19th and 20th centuries (SoSe 2021)

This course in the history of political thought offers an introduction to the history and theories of authoritarian rule from nineteenth century Caesarism to twentieth century Fascism and Populism. It analyses the works of theoreticians such as  Alexis de Tocqueville, Karl Marx, Max Weber, Walter Benjamin, Hannah Arendt and others and examines their historical context.
