The course is aimed at students who know the basics of Ukrainian well and intend to continue learning the language at an Independent User level. A lot of communication training and public speaking exercises are aimed at encouraging students to use Ukrainian in real life. The course also provides a wide range of materials on the Ukrainian culture.
The methods of teaching used during the course are mainly those of the communicative approach which will help the learners start communicating in the foreign language as soon as possible. This can be reached via the activities designed to practice language in realistic, communicative activities in the classroom in combination with a comprehensive coverage of the basis of grammatical and lexical systems of Ukrainian. Additional emphasis is placed on developing sociolinguistic communicative skills necessary for successful intercultural interaction. Course materials engage students in exploring Ukraine's living cultural and linguistic environment through the study of its living language.
At the end of the course, the students can express themselves coherently and are able to present and explain their point of view during a discussion spontaneously. They can read stylistically uncomplicated short stories and newspaper articles and can understand the main ideas of uncomplicated radio and television reports.
