Recently, a new research field on religion and development has emerged. Within this framework, the seminar approaches the relationship of religious communities and sustainable development with a regional focus on the Middle East, using case studies from two countries marked by high ethno-religious diversity, Iraq and Lebanon. The seminar closely relates to the research project “Driving forces of transformation – religious communities and sustainable development”, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.
