Das Seminar behandelt der Wandel der Bildungssysteme in Malaysia und Indonesien. Beide Länder standen unter jeweils anderer (GB und Niederlande), zeitweilig aber auch unter derselben Kolonialherrschaft (Japan). Sie haben unterschiedliche staatliche und private / religiöse Bildungssysteme entwickelt. Der Schwerpunkt des Seminars liegt auf der post-kolonialen Zeit und auf dem religiösen Bildungssektor, der in beiden Ländern von großer Bedeutung ist. Viele gesellschaftliche Spannungsfelder sind in der Bildungspolitik reflektiert. Die Bildungspolitik ist ein Spiegel der Regierungsagenda im Gefüge kompetitiver intra-regionaler und internationaler Beziehungen.
The seminar addresses the education systems of Indonesia and Malaysia. Both countries were governed by different (i.e. GB and The Netherlands), but for a while also by the same colonial power (i.e. Japan). They developed diverging state-operated and private / religious education systems. The seminar concentrates on the post-colonial period and the religious education sector, which is particularly relevant in both countries. A number of social contestations are reflected in the field of education, since this policy field is a mirror of governments’ agendas in the competitive setting of intra-regional as well as international relations.
