Are you worried about the rise of the robots, environmental collapse, or artificial intelligence? Through science fiction (SF) and fantasy we imagine how present trends might become future reality. Therefore, in this course we will read key SF and fantasy texts, analyse the issues they raise, and develop a better understanding of what makes these genres popular with readers. This course is suitable for both science and humanities students who want to improve their writing skills, as well as those curious about SF and fantasy genres. As well as reading key texts there will be creative activities to inspire you. Grading is based on the following: two short thought papers, a longer piece of critical or creative writing (of your choice), and an exam.
