This course facilitates participant ability to comprehend and comment on a wide range of ideas and disputes prevalent in a variety of humanities disciplines in the English-speaking world. Readings and audiovisual materials explore aspects of race, gender, culture, migration, and the arts, primarily with regard to historical and current developments in the Americas and the African diaspora, including a special focus on the interrelationship between Black music/film/literature and movements for socio-political change. In addition to engaging in extensive group discussion and in-class writing, each participant will give a presentation on a topic of their choosing.
