This seminar emphasizes the acquisition and practical application of qualitative methodology in human geography (e.g. participant observation, interviews, and participatory methods), anchored in ethics and positionality. In this course students will learn how to write a proposal, develop research questions, plan and conduct qualitative research, as well as code qualitative data and write up their findings. Students will gain a thorough understanding of various qualitative methods and will learn from examples provided from case studies and previous research. Thematically, this semester remains flexible, enabling students to select their own research topics, subject to approval.
