This seminar takes a broad view of the recent ‘maritime turn’ in humanities scholarship, focusing on the sea as a potent space of both cultural imaginaries and material flows. Taking an interdisciplinary approach embracing history, visual culture and theory, it will engage with the sea not just as an object of study, but as a means for thinking through entangled ontologies, including: globalisation; (post)colonialism; ecological collapse; the landscapes of capitalism; social conflict.

The seminar takes place weekly on Mondays from 12.00-14.00 in Room 0.03 at Sophienstraße 22-22a (SO 22) - (Unterrichtsraum)
