20 years ago scholars started to reflect the impact of postcolonial studies for medievalists, more or less unnoticed by the wider community of historians within and outside the field of Medieval studies. The debate gained much more political and theoretical momentum during recent years and new approaches like „critical race theory“. In this seminary we will discuss prominent works and controversies and examine their theoretical approaches and empirical methods. At the same time we expand our own empirical knowledge of sources and fields of research in the global Middle Ages.
