The course focuses on those aspects of group theory relevant for theoretical physics and will roughly consist of two parts: (1) finite groups and (2) Lie groups. For part (1) lecture notes will be provided that cover all course material, for part (2) we will follow parts of Brian Hall's book "Lie Groups, Lie Algebras, and Representations" (second edition). Lectures will center around the mathematical theory with links to physics wherever possible, whereas the exercises will be used to study particular examples of physical applications of group theory.
