The Zhuangzi is the most intellectually challenging and philosophically intriguing text in ancient Chinese literature. In this Hauptseminar we will explore issues in the philosophy of language, logic, and epistemology raised by the Zhuangzi, focusing on the second (qí wù lùn 齊物論) chapter. We will also consider the methodological and historiographical issues involved in approaching ancient Chinese philosophy. The seminar will be conducted mainly in English, but contributions in German will be welcome. Knowledge of Chinese (ancient or modern) is not required.
