Das Seminar beschäftigt sich mit ästhetischer Theorie des globalen
Südens. Dabei geht es um die Erkundung multipolarer ästhetischer Urteile
und kultureller Produktion, nicht um eine statische Kategorie des
globalen Südens. Der Begriff der Theorie bezieht sich auf die explizite
Formulierung akademischer und kunstkritischer Theorien, aber auch um
implizite Theorien, die mit der künstlerischen Praxis verknüpft sind.
Das
im Kurs behandelte Material umfasst sowohl Texte als auch Kunstwerke.
Über das von der Seminarleitung zur Verfügung gestellte Material hinaus
sollen die Teilnehmenden selber Material in das Seminar einführen. Die
Lernmethode des Kurses soll nicht in eine Richtung verlaufen, sondern
die Teilnehmenden sollten ihre eigene Position als Schöpfende,
Beurteilende und Konsumierende von Kunst und Kunsttheorie reflektieren.
This course studies aesthetic theory in the context of the Global
South. ‘Global South’ is not taken as an evident description, but rather
an open question for exploring multi-polar aesthetic judgments and
cultural production. ‘Theory’ refers both to the explicit formulation of
theories in academic discourse and art criticism and the implicit
theories which inform and arise from artistic practice.
The ‘textual
material’ of this course includes both reading material and observations
of art works. In addition to material provided by the lecturer, seminar
participants are expected to introduce material to the course. The
pedagogic premise of this seminar is the co-production of learning
experiences and participants are invited to reflect on their own
positions as creators, evaluators and consumers of art and theory in the
contexts under study.

How do artistic modernisms reflect, differ from, or challenge globalization?
