Students get to know theoretical approaches to American culture. They discuss the question how ‘culture’ can be defined and what significance it has. They get to know major concepts of exploring cultural texts, events, and discourses and apply them. They learn about the problematics of representation and discourse, memory, race and whiteness, gender and sex, class and popular culture.
